The BEST Part of Waking Up is.....

The first thing I do after waking up and brushing my teeth is trudge to the kitchen and start filling the coffeepot with water and putting coffee in the basket to brew.

After a couple of minutes I fill my cup. For some reason my coffee is never hot enough, it looks right, but as I touch it to my lips, nope...  it has the mere essence of coffee, but is not anything I would drink or offer to anyone else in that blah state. So I nuke it in the microwave for 60 seconds and voila, it is heated to that perfect temperature that smells and awakens all my senses.

Lukewarm coffee is not my cup of tea. and I would venture to say, that this is most everyone elses feeling about it too.

This morning I read in Revelations 3:15-20. It is the last book in the Bible written by John. It talked about how God feels about us as believers and being "not hot or cold" but lukewarm. It is very straight forward. Lukewarm believers are distasteful to Him, and he would spit them out of his mouth!

That is pretty harsh! But it is the Word of God. And I for one, do not take that lightly. How do we know if we are lukewarm?

Is God important to us? Are we in a place of prayer more than on a Sunday? What do we really put our faith in? Ourselves? Our money? Our beauty? Our education? Our diet?  Our abilities? the list can go on and on. None of these in themselves are bad things, but they are not to be our idol or our god.

In these verses he is addressing the Church. It is addressed to us who have acknowledged our need for God and accepted His plan of salvation. But in theses verses He also addresses the attitude and blindness of the Church. We say we have need of nothing, we are rich, but He says we are really blind and naked.

He says we are, in reality, destitute of what we really need.

God advises us to buy gold from Him. How do we do that?

Gold, the kind that God is talking about, is the kind that only comes to us by having all the impurities burned away from us. "Then you will be rich" vs.18 says. He then goes on to say," I correct and discipline everyone I love. "So be diligent and turn from your indifference."

He invites us, to "Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends. Those who are victorious will sit with me on my throne, just as I was victorious and sat with my Father on his throne. Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches."  (vs.20-22)

God doesn't just invite us to fellowship with him the day we were saved. He is ALWAYS inviting us.

Time with God and his Word is never wasted. The Word cleanses us, changes us and draws us closer to His heart. And in the process grows our devotion and love for God.

2Timothy 3;16-17 tells us that :

"All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

When I trusted Christ as my Savior, I soaked in the Word, prayed a lot and grew. My spiritual temperature was very hot.  I feel that God has been faithful to point out many things to me in that process.  I have come away from time with God, refreshed, loved and validated, and many times, corrected. And at the same time, I have realized, it is the work of Gods grace. I have nothing to offer in myself, just a surrendered life.

Not all days are what I would call greatly enlightening, but I always come away satisfied and refreshed. God is faithful to be here and invite me to be with Him. There is NO better place. Spending time with God in his Word, changes me, and my perspective. It makes me a better woman, wife and friend.

I have heard that spiritual life can ebb and flow. I believe that's true. But God never changes. If anything is wrong, its usually me that has moved. But again, God is willing to restore me to that place of devotion to Him, if I would just take the time to answer his knock on the door of my heart.

I never want to be like a cold cup of coffee, and be dumped out. I want to stay heated by the fire of God.

Fill my cup Lord

Like the woman at the well I was seeking for things that could not satisfy

and then I heard my Savior speaking

Draw from my well that never shall run dry.

Fill my cup, Lord, I lift it up Lord, Come and quench this thirsting of my soul

Bread of heaven feed me till I want no more, fill my cup, fill it up and make me whole.

There are millions in this world who are craving the pleasures earthly things afford

But none can match the wondrous treasure that I find in Jesus Christ my Lord.
