Love is a verb...
What is love anyway? Is it hearts and flowers? Is it romantic music? A hug and a kiss?
Well, love can be all of these things and many other things that come to mind.
Sometimes we throw around that word, " love "without really thinking about all it means. We all have our own ideas of what that is in our mind.
But really...
What IS the meaning of LOVE ?
Gods Word tells us love IS MANY things, and also
what it isn't.
I can say I love you, but if I think I can tell you that and not act accordingly,
it doesn't hold much weight, does it ?
If I think I always have to be right, and get my dig in while telling you so...
that is NOT love...
even if I think it is something you NEED to hear.
Gods Word tells us that we can do a lot of impressive things as christians but if we do not do them, with a loving heart, they are essentially nothing at all. That includes things like," speaking in tongues of men and of angels, having prophetic powers, and even understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and even if we have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, we gain nothing." (1Cor. 13 1-2)
Think about that, let it settle in your mind... God looks at our hearts intent, not only what we are doing that might seem impressive. Its pretty important,...
to God
this thing called "love."
After all, God Himself is love.
So, for us, as believers to not reproduce that very important aspect of the God we believe to be our Rock, it would be a total shame.
So what DOES Gods Word say about love???
Love is patient and kind. Not only when it is easy, rather, especially when it is not easy.
Love does not envy or boast. Be glad for that persons promotion, rather especially when you thought it was to be yours.
Love is not arrogant, So you know that person "needs to be set straight" uh huh, we all do, from time to time.
Love is not rude, be kind, always, it does not cost anything but maybe your own ego or pride.
It does not insist on its own way, even when its own way is maybe or even probably the better way...
It is not irritable or resentful, even on the most trying days (ouch)
It does not rejoice in wrong doing, but rejoices in the truth. So no getting even, because Love does not want that other person to experience the outcome of that.
Love :
bears all things...no matter how hard... because of faith in their God
believes all things ... the best of everyone... because of faith in their God
hopes all things... every single day,...because of faith in their God
endures all things. .. with steadfast strength... because of faith in their God
Love never ends.
As for prophecies, they will pass away, as for tongues, they will cease, as for knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away.
When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child. I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put away childish ways. For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, then I shall know fully, even as I have been known. So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love. (1 Corinthians 13) "The Love Chapter"
We CAN bring light to our families, our work, our community, our world, if we just reflect the love of Jesus, and hopefully, eventually even draw others to him in the process.
Love, it is so much more than hearts and flowers!!
