Everything has a Name

Just recently I had a conversation with friends of mine who stated that they were questioning their beliefs. What IS really true and what could they have absolute faith in with this world of so much controversy.

I felt that recent events were instrumental in those questions and triggered an even deeper quest for what is true in all of what we are seeing going on in the world.

I think that being a believer doesn't inoculate us from questions; I also believe that questions are inevitable and actually good, especially in these time war and loss.

One friend even said, "Yes, I do believe there is a higher power. But I am not sure who that actually is. I was very surprised at that comment. But at least it was an honest one.  I continued to listen and think about how to answer.

Later a thought came to my mind.   I recalled a movie that I had seen so many years ago. The movie was "The Miracle Worker" with Anne Bancroft and Patty Duke. It was a true story about Helen Keller and Annie Sullivan. Helen became blind and mute after a severe illness at 19 months of age.  She was from a well to do family in th19th century.

Annie Sullivan was hired by the family to help this little girl in her very limited world. Helen was 6 years old.  It was quite a challenge for Annie because the family had overindulged Helen so much that she was a bit of a tyrant. Annie had to first deal with Helen in a way she had never experienced before. Namely not allowing her special privileges and bad manners just because she had disabilities. Annie herself had very bad eyesight and was experienced in dealing with that certain handicap.

In time, Annie amazingly opened up the world, so to speak, to Helen, by her method of teaching. Annie used sign language and touching objects for Helen to learn that everything has a name. This endeavor took quite a while for Helen to understand that the motions she was learning with her fingers was representing an object. It seemed like forever for the two things to connect in Helen's mind. But Annie did not give up on her.

The movie expressed how hard it was for Helen to finally put two and two together.  It was a hard, long time coming. After MUCH wrestling through times of not understanding and wanting her own way and learning to trust her teacher, Helen finally realized the connection; and with love and gratitude, hugged and kissed Annie.

She finally realized so many things, and most of all that Annie loved her, through all those lessons and painful interactions.

In the years to come, because of the diligent work of Annie, and their companionship, Helen excelled as a writer and believer in Christ.

I believe God placed Annie is Helen's life. He knew her need and who could meet that need.

I would venture to believe that Helen and her family were not too sure about Annies's approach to the need. It wasn't so clear in the beginning of that endeavor.  Annie was adamant though in what needed to happen for her to be successful in helping Helen.

She had to have full cooperation from the family and because they kept interfering, she had to isolate Helen from the family by staying in a different place. It was painful for Helen and for her family. But they eventually agreed.

The phrase," It has a name."  again came to mind when I was thinking of how I can help this person.

He has a name, and His Name is Jesus Christ. He is The God who we all search for. He is not A god but The One True God over all things seen and unseen.

In so many ways we can be like Helen. We can be blind and deaf when it comes to God. There is so much that is available for us to see and experience in God.

He is here, He is with us, and we might not even realize it, because we are limited.

But God is not.

He has given us a Teacher (Jesus) to show us the Father. And as we grow in knowledge and trust, we will see more clearly.

And as we grow in faith and trust; even through hard times that baffle us, we can be like Helen, and "see" through eyes of faith.  And know that God is sovereign, His motives are LOVE, and will bring us through. Just like Annie, God knows what He is doing. He has a plan; sometimes it is very painful, but, we can trust Him.

Scriptures to solidify faith:

For this reason, God highly exalted Him and gave Him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow in heaven and on earth and under the earth and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:9-11

",,,You shall call His Name Jesus, and He shall save his people from their sins." Matthew1:21

And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." Isaiah9:6

Philip said, " Lord, show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us." Jesus said to him, "Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, 'Show us the Father'? John14:8-9

Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God. John 3;2 (Nicodemus talking to Jesus)

" In this world you will have tribulation but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world." John 16;3

" For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his Majesty." 2Peter 1:16

Jesus said, "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me."

                                                                                                                                     John 14:6

For now we see through a glass, darkly, but then face to face: now I know in part; but then I shall know fully even as also I am known. 1Corinthians 13:12

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not to your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths. Prov. 3;5-6

"Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world." John 1:36

Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels around the throne, and also of the living creatures and of the elders, their number was countless thousands, plus thousands of thousands. And they said with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb who was slaughtered to receive power and riches and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and blessing! I heard every creature in heaven, on earth, and under the earth, on the sea, and everything in them say,

Blessing and honor and glory and power be to the One seated on the throne, and to the Lamb, forever and ever!      Revelation 5:11-13

.And Yes, there is a God and He has a Name, and that name is Jesus Christ!

InYes, there is a God and he has a name. and that name is Jesus Christ.
