Tips for a prayer journal...
In putting together a quiet time, there are a few tools I use to help me remember prayer requests.
I use a prayer journal. That is a notebook that I divide up into 2 sections.
The notebook is just a medium spiral notebook that fits in the inside flap of my Bible Cover.
I have a prayer list I keep in the front section. Over the years, I have used different lists and different
ways of implementing them.
The list I use now is simple:
I have certain people that I pray for on certain days. I usually pray for my husband along with the other prayers
Sundays- Youth Group kids, and my church family's prayer requests.
Mondays- My 1st daughters family
Tuesday-My 1st sons family
Wednesday= my 2nd sons family
Thursday -my 2nd daughters family
Friday- my 3rd daughters family
Saturday- my husbands son and daughters families.
These are stationary, meaning I keep this list before I start on other lists.
If I hear of another prayer request, I pray for those too.
If I have time, I pray for each individual and their needs on that day. If there is a day I don't pray, I double up on the next day. But I usually pray anyway, in the car or when cleaning or what ever I am doing that day. After all, God is always listening, and He does surprise me sometimes by giving me a verse as I am praying or a whole different perspective on a situation than I would never have thought of at that time!
The second part of my notebook is where I write my prayers down. In my first blog about quiet
time I wrote my acronym A-C-T-S... I usually try to stick with that simple way of praying.
When I get to the supplications, I start on my prayer list for that day.
Another way to have a prayer list is to divide a page into 7 columns by folding them.
I used this method for a few years. I would use a column for each day and write the names of the people I would pray for that day. It was handy and I would get a lot more people prayed for that way.
I could just go down the list and speak to the Lord about that persons needs. Its quick if you don't care to write down your prayers.
I personally like to write down my prayers most days. It takes time, but I feel its almost like a Psalm to the Lord each day I write. Sometimes I am quite busy and don't take the time to do this, but I feel I always feel better after I take the time to write a letter to God.
I keep a prayer journal with my Bible during the week. I don't take that with me to church though. My prayer journal is personal, and sometimes has personal requests from others, so I leave it home.
No matter how you begin a prayer time; with a journal or not. It is good to have a quiet time, to focus on the Lord and read His word, its is essential to grow deep roots in God.
